The Blue Water Navy manufactures an excellent line of warships. Several of their models have had excellent top rated reviews by experts in the field. They are rated as ---"simply the best."

When Bath Iron Works needed completely detailed models of the new Arleigh Burke Class Destroyers they build, they went to Blue Water Navy. Bath supplied the plans, and Blue Water Navy supplied them with a completely detailed 1/350 scale desk top model ship. They were very impressed with the high level of detail, as you the modeler will be with any of their fine models.

The instruction manuals contain rather complete histories of the ships, some of which are reproduced in our catalog below. The castings are excellent with completely accurate dimensioning. White metal and resin parts are both clean and sufficiently detailed, and one of their kits greatest forte is the excellent quality of their photo-etched parts. If your interests lie in 1/350 scale warships, these are the kits for you.

USS Gearing DD710 1945
Gearing Class Destroyer

ship model The Gearing class of destroyers were the ultimate development of a wartime destroyer series that began with the Fletcher class. They were developed to give higher endurance and to accommodate the bulkier armament of the three twin five-inch 38 gun mounts. The earlier Fletchers carried two such guns. They were the biggest class of destroyers in WW II and the final destroyers developed for the U.S. Navy in the 1940's.

The USS Gearing DD710 was launched on February 18, 1945 by the Federal Shipbuilding & Drydock Co. in Kerany, NJ. She was used mainly in peacetime operations, and sailed the Atlantic coast of North and south America, the Mediterranean, Caribbean and the Arctic. In October, 1962 she participated in the American "quarantine" patrol against Cuba. she served until 1973 and was scrapped in 1974.

The Blue Water Navy kit captures the essence of this class. The kit measures 13.25 inches long. A multimedia kit comprised of a single resin upper hull, a single piece lower hull (allowing the modeler to build a full hull or water line model), resin stacks, turrets and platforms. Small parts are cast in fine pewter for extra strength. A photo-etched brass sheet completes the kit with over 70 parts. Complete instructions and painting suggestions are included.

More than sixty units have been commissioned with four constructed for the Royal Australian Navy. These ships were designed as escorts for convoys and are direct descendants of the World War Two destroyer escorts.

Armed with a Mk 13 missile launcher, they carry forty rounds including Standard SAM and Harpoon SSM missiles. They also carry a 76mm OTO Melara automatic gun, a Phalanx close in Weapons System (CIWS), and two sets of Mk 32 triple torpedo launchers. The FFG-7's can carry two SH-60 Seahawk helicopters, which perform a number of functions including long range anti-submarine warfare.

USS Houston (CA30)
Northampton Class Heavy Cruiser
"The Ghost of the Java Coast"

model ship The six ships of this class were authorized in 1924 and designed under the restrictions of the Washington Navel Conference, hence the nickname--"treaty cruisers." The six ships of the class were, Northampton CA-29, Chester CA-27, Louisville CA-28, Chicago CA-29, Houston CA-30 and Augusta CA-31. Augusta, Northampton, Houston and Chicago were lost in the Pacific.

Houston was laid down in May 1928, at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. in Virginia; she was commissioned in June, 1930, and was only one of three American cruisers to win the Presidential Unit Citation.
In 1931, Houston became the flagship of the Asiatic Station. She returned to the West Coast in 1933 and hosted Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1934 and again in 1935. FDR considered the Houston his second home. In 1938, she was flagship of the U.S. Fleet.
During the first days of WW II, Houston joined with warships of Australia, Britain and the Netherlands in an attempt to hold the Indonesian area. On February 4, 1942, she was hit by a bomb that killed over 50 men and knocked out the aft 8-inch gun turret.
On Feb. 26th, the combined task force met the Japanese for seven raging hours in what is now know as the Battle of the Java Sea. On the following day, Houston and the Australian cruiser Perth, while attempting to escape via Sunda Strait, discovered the Japanese invasion transport and immediately attacked. A savage close quarters battle ensured, and shortly after midnight, Perth went down, followed by Houston, guns still firing, with the loss of 700 of her crew.
After the war, fewer than 300 Houston crewmen came home from Japanese prison camps. When the story of their heroic ship became known, she was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation, and her skipper Capt. A.H. Rocks, was awarded the Medal of Honor (posthumously.)

The Blue Water Navy kit is the first and most accurate kit of this ship on the market today. Measuring 20.5 inches long, this kit is highly detailed. The upper hull is cast as a single piece casting split at the waterline so the modeler can have a choice as to full hull or waterline model. All the large parts, turrets, bridge, and smoke stacks are cast in resin. All small parts are cast in fine pewter. An extensive photo-etched brass sheet includes all the finishing touches. Instructions are complete including painting suggestions. The model depicts the ship as she was in 1942.

USS GAMBIER BAY CVE73

ship model The concept of the light carrier grew out of British and US studies beginning with World War I, for small, inexpensive ships providing a capability for flexible ship-based aircraft operations.

Early in WW II, shipbuilding magnate, Henry J. Kaiser convinced President Roosevelt of the merits of a fleet of light carriers based upon his merchant ship hulls utilizing his successful mass production shipbuilding methods. These became the Casablanca class of which 50 were constructed.

One such ship was the Gambier Bay (CVE-73) named after a bay on Alaska's Admiralty Island. Her keel was laid July 10, 1943 at the Kaiser shipyard in Vancouver, Washington, and she was delivered to th Navy 171 days later.

Her first missions were the transportation of troops from the US Mainland to Hawaii, and then the provision of 84 aircraft to the Enterprise operating in the Marshall Islands. Following this, she was utilized in carrier qualifications of Marine pilots flying F4U Corsairs: this was the first escort carrier operation of the Corsair.

Also know as the jeep carrier, the small CVE's were known to have a big punch. Gambier Bay took part in the naval surface action off Sumar at Leyte Gulf in October 1944. She was lost to Japanese naval gunfire. Approximately 700 of her crew were rescued, and she received four battle stars and shared a Presidential Unit Citation.

Blue Water Navy's kit of CVE73 measures 19 inches long. The hull is divided at the waterline to allow a choice of a full or waterline display. The main flight deck is divided at the center expansion joint. All the fine detail that is expected in a kit of this size is there. The flight deck is engraved so you can see the wood and tie down slots. 16 aircraft are included in the kit. 8 TDF's and 8 FM-2's. The FM-2 even has landing gear that looks like the real thing. All the major deck platforms are cast in resin. The various small parts are cast in pewter like metal. An extensive photo-etched brass sheet is also included.

They became the basis for all future American attack subs, with their deep-diving HY-80 construction also applied to the Lafayette class ballistic missile submarines.

Following the Permit class, was the improved and slightly larger Surgeon class. With the same weapons and sonars, these boats also used the same S5W powerplant.

The first Sturgeon class sub was launched in 1966, with thirty-seven additional boats built, ending with SSN 687 in 1974.

The Blue Water Navy kit measures 12.5 inches long and is a perfect first kit. The hull is a single casting with metal dive planes. A great weekend project.

USS Enterprise CV6, 1944
THE BIG E

USS ENTERPRISE Without a doubt, the most famous US Navy ship of all time is the USS Enterprise. This famous ship fought in every major action of WW II except Pearl Harbor. She earned more battlestar awards than any US Navy ship. The accomplishments made by her and her crew will probably never be repeated. She saw the most action of any US Navy ship. This is a must have for anyone who has a 1/350 scale WW II collection.

This is a massive kit. While not for the novice, this kit will take time to build in order to display her in all her glory. A center piece model that is on display in the Imperial War Museum of England, this kit can be your center piece as well.

The Blue Water Navy kit features a 2 foot 4 inch length hull. The hull is split at the waterline to allow the modeler to build a full hull or a waterline model. The kit has a complete and detailed hanger bay. All the platforms are reproduced in exact 1/350 scale. The kit has a solid photo-etched brass flight deck. The engraved deck with all the tie downs reproduced really sets this kit apart. Four sheets of photo-etched brass parts are included that amount to over 1200 parts. The sheets are so detailed that even the 40mm guns have gun sights. 24 aircraft are included in the kit. You get 8 F6F Hellcats, 8 TBF Avengers, and 8 DBD Dauntless dive bombers. All planes have brass propellers and landing gear. The SBD's even have brass dive brakes. All small parts are made in fine pewter.

The kit measures 17.5 inches long. This kit is the first and only accurate kit of this ship on the market today. The upper hull is cast as a single piece casting split at the waterline. (full or waterline construction at your choice). The model has different features added and deleted from the previous ships in the class. Most notable is the addition of the large hangers off the stern helipad.

USS Hornet CV8, 1942
"Doolittle Raiders"

no picture Commissioned in November, 1941 and younger sister to both Yorktown and Enterprise, USS Hornet had a short, yet distinguished operational career. In early 1942, when the Japanese juggernaut seemed all but unstoppable, a plan was under development to stage a raid on the Japanese capital, Tokyo. A conventional carrier strike would have been suicide, but the Japanese High Command would never expect an attack by land-based aircraft. The plan called for 16 B-25B's to be launched from the deck of a carrier, attack their Japanese targets and then proceed to friendly territory on the Chinese mainland. The Hornet was chosen for this task, and launched "Doolittle Raiders" on April 18, 1942. This one event started a series of events culminating in the Battle of Midway.

While not for the novice, this kit will take time to build in order to display her in all her glory. The kit features a 2 foot 4 inch long hull. The hull is split at the waterline to allow full hull or waterline model construction. The kit has a complete and detailed hanger bay. All platforms are reproduced in exact 1/350 scale. The kit has a solid photo-etched brass flight deck. The engraved deck with all the tie downs reproduced is excellent. Four sheets of photo-etched brass parts are included with over 1200 parts. 16 aircraft are included in this kit. You get 16 B-25B bombers. All planes have brass propellers and landing gear. All small parts are made of Pewter.
