Made by an aerospace manufacturer in America, the Taig Lathe is a true precision machine. Designed for industrial use and built to the highest specifications from steel and hard anodized aluminum, it guarantees the highest degree of accuracy. A 2-1/4" wide precision ground bedway is attached to a 15" long 45 degree dovetailed extruded aluminum bed, filled with a concrete-like material that makes it extremely rigid. The bed mounts on the baseboard only at the headstock end, reducing the chance of distorting it by uneven clamping. The lever-actuated tailstock lets you feed drill bits in the Jacobs chuck as fast as you need. A sealed bearing spindle assures smooth performance and long life.
The small lathe with a large capacity, your Taig Lathe features a center height of 2-1/4" for a maximum turning diameter of 4-1/2". distance between centers is 9-3/4". Using the optional tailstock as an end support, it holds parts well over 9" between centers.
Its machined, ground and stabilized steel bed has a life-time ball bearing spindle, coupled with a six speed positive vee belt drive. Spindle speeds in geometric progression from 525-5200 RPM provide the power to "Hog" 1/8" cuts in mild steel or the speed and precision to "dust" a few tenths.
Other big lathe features include large .001 graduations on cross slide dial, all angle tool post and carriage depth stop. Adjustable gibs provide full compensation for carriage and crosslide wear. It all adds up to the best value in small lathes.
Carriage travel is .600" in one revolution of the handwheel, and 9" overall. Cross slide travel is 1-3/4" in .001" increments. Using raising blocks increases this capacity to a 3" center height. Tail stock adjustment is 5/8" each side of center. The lathe takes all standard 1/4" tool bits, and maximum collet diameter is 9/32".
